* Description: This micro-course shows how to use forward and backward citation chaining to map a topic fast and without missing key papers. You will begin with one seed article and extract cited references, then pivot to forward citations using Scholar and publisher tools. A simple screening rubric helps you separate background from decision-critical sources. You will learn to label reasons for inclusion and exclusion so your trail makes sense months later. Export guidance covers RIS/BibTeX and how to keep IDs consistent across citation managers. A PRISMA-lite flow diagram records how many items were found, screened, and included for transparency. Topic clustering with keywords reveals sub-themes you may want to track separately. You will practice a one-hour mapping sprint that ends with a two-page brief and a reading list. Common traps—self-citation loops, predatory outlets, and over-reliance on a single database—are flagged with examples. The result is a compact map of the literature that you can extend, prune, or hand off to a collaborator easily.
* Format: Video walkthroughs, chaining checklist, screening rubric, PRISMA-lite template, and brief outline.
* Duration: 75 minutes of lessons plus a 30-minute mapping sprint.
* What You’ll Learn: Backward/forward chaining, screening discipline, export hygiene, and topic clustering.
* Target Audience: Researchers and students building a quick yet transparent overview of a field.
